Man who allegedly set recycling bins on fire at Bukit Batok arrested within 24 hours

A 24-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in cases of mischief by fire at Blocks 323 and 324 of Bukit Batok Street 33.

The police said in a statement that were alerted to a case of fire where two recycling bins were burnt at the ground floor at Blocks 323 and 324 of Bukit Batok Street 33 on Friday (Oct 30) at about 3.35 pm.

The police were subsequently alerted to another case of fire on the same day at about 10.55pm where another recycling bin at the ground floor at Block 323 Bukit Batok Street 33 was burnt.

No one was injured during the incidents.

"Through follow-up investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man who is believed to be involved in both incidents and arrested him within 24 hours," said the police.

The man will be charged in court on Monday (Nov 2) with mischief by fire.

Anyone convicted of this offence can be jailed for up to seven years and fined.
