Man who allegedly robbed, assaulted woman in Yishun gets detained by member of the public

A member of the public helped to detain a 47-year-old man who had allegedly robbed and assaulted a woman in Yishun, thus leading to the man's arrest.

The police said the member of the public had alerted them to the case of robbery with hurt in the vicinity of Yishun Street 11 on August 25, at around 10.30pm.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had allegedly assaulted a 45-year-old woman and fled with her handbag containing cash and valuables worth $500," the police added.

The man was charged in court on Saturday with robbery with hurt, which carries a jail term of between five and 20 years, and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
