A 33-year-old man in Punggol was rescued by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and subsequently arrested by the police on Thursday (Aug 1).

The police told Stomp that they received a call for assistance at Block 107B Edgefield Plains at 9.47am, while the SCDF said it responded to a rescue incident at around 10.35am.

When the authorities arrived, a man was spotted at the bedroom window of a 15th-floor unit.

Rappellers from the SCDF's Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team, a safety net and a safety life air pack were deployed as precautionary measures, said an SCDF spokesman.

Photos taken by Stomper Jasmin, who was making a delivery in the vicinity, show the safety life air pack at the foot of the block.

The area had also been cordoned off.

The man was subsequently brought to safety by SCDF rappellers.

He was assessed by paramedics and was conscious when taken to Singapore General Hospital in an ambulance.

A police spokesman told Stomp: "The man was subsequently arrested under the Mental Health Act and Telecommunications Act."

Police investigations are ongoing.
