Man livestreaming Keat Hong fire says he smelled smoke, thought it was people burning joss paper

A flat at Block 803A Keat Hong Close in Choa Chu Kang caught fire on Friday (May 26).

One person from the affected unit was assessed by a paramedic for smoke inhalation but did not want to be taken to the hospital, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in a Facebook post.

SCDF was alerted to a fire at about 10am.

"Upon SCDF's arrival, the fire was raging in the kitchen of a unit on the fourth floor," said the Facebook post.

"SCDF firefighters from Clementi Fire Station and Bukit Batok Fire Station entered the smoke-logged unit and extinguished the fire with two water jets. As a result of the fire, the rest of the unit sustained heat and soot damages."

"Two person had evacuated the unit prior to SCDF's arrival. Approximately 40 residents from the neighbouring units were evacuated by the police as a precautionary measure."

A Facebook user named Yoshi Kyoz Rikushimeikato livestreamed the fire at 10.16am, showing an SCDF Red Rhino and a fire engine next to an HDB block with smoke coming out of it.
