Man found dead in pond at Sembawang plant nursery after going MIA overnight

A man was discovered dead in a pond at a plant nursery in Sembawang after going missing for a night.

The incident happened on Friday (Nov 3) at around 7.30am in an isolated nursery along Sembawang Road.

The deceased, Mr Zhuo, 69, worked as a lorry driver and was half-naked when he was discovered.

He is believed to have fallen into the pond and drowned.

He had lived with his wife in Yishun, and the couple does not have any children.

Mr Zhuo’s wife, Ms Tan, 64, told Lianhe Wanbao on Saturday night (Nov 4)  that she had been unable to contact her husband since Thursday night (Nov 2).

She said:

“My husband would normally call me by 8pm even if he was working overtime or helping out in the nursery.

“However, on Thursday night, I never received any calls and it was already past 9pm.

“I felt that something was off.”

Ms Tan waited until the next morning.

When she still did not hear from her husband by 5am, Ms Tan lodged a Police report.

Ms Tan and her brother then drove around to look for Mr Zhuo.

She added:

“I had only gone with my husband to the nursery once as it is just too far.

“My brother and I could not even locate it,”

At around 9am on Friday, the two received a call from the Police, saying that they had found her husband’s lorry and a body.

Mr Zhuo's niece and two other relatives subsequently went down to the scene to identify the body.
