A man was disgusted after finding a bug in a plate of nasi biryani he had bought and eaten part of.

Stomper Wen Jie told Stomp that he bought the nasi biryani for $5 from a coffee shop stall at Block 710 Clementi West Street 2 on July 20.

"After I saw the bug in the nasi biryani, I brought the whole plate back to the stall and showed it to them," he said.

"They showed the bug to the one cooking the nasi biryani and quickly refunded me the $5.

"They then kept quiet and threw the food away."

The Stomper expressed concern regarding the lack of food hygiene.

"The whole food and stall wasn't clean," he said.

"I had diarrhoea for a few days after the incident."

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said: "Food safety is a joint responsibility.

"While the SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices.

"Members of the public who come across any potentially errant food operator should report to SFA via the online feedback form.

"SFA takes a serious view towards food safety and will investigate all feedback alleging poor food safety practices.

"As part of the enquiry and gathering of evidence, SFA may engage the feedback provider for more details and will not hesitate to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence has been obtained."
