Man lauded for detaining guy who pointed phone up woman's skirt at Tanah Merah MRT Station

A man was commended on Thursday (Dec 20) for his public-spiritedness in assisting police in a case of public nuisance.

Mr Benjamin Lim Zheng Hao was given an award for his good deed in a ceremony held at the Public Transport Security Command
(TransCom).

On Nov 14 at about 12.10pm, Mr Lim was travelling on an escalator at Tanah Merah MRT Station when he saw a man bending down with his mobile phone camera pointed up a skirt of a woman who was standing in front of him.

While the three of them were in the train, Mr Lim informed the woman about the incident.

With the assistance of the woman, he detained the man and alerted the station manager who then informed the police.

Deputy Commander of Public Transport Security Command, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Evon Ng, said: "Commuters are advised to be vigilant to their surroundings when travelling on public transport. 

"Besides ensuring their own safety, they can also help to keep the public transport network safe by looking out for each other. 

"The police is thankful to Mr Lim for his display of public spiritedness.

"Such acts go a long way to help deter crime on the public transport network.

"Anyone who insults the modesty of women may be jailed for up to a year and/or fined."
