Man caught not-so-subtly taking stall assistant's bag from table at Dunman Food Centre

Noticing some unattended belongings on a table at Dunman Food Centre, a man decided to help himself to a bag and left the premises with it.

Unfortunately, he did not realise that he had been caught on camera.

CCTV footage of the incident, which took place on Sunday evening (Oct 29) at around 7.10pm, was posted online by Facebook user Hing Yi Quan, who owns a stall at the hawker centre.

The video shows the man, clad in a T-shirt, shorts and slippers, looking around furtively and reaching for the sling bag. However, he withdrew his hand upon seeing someone approach.

On his second try, he took the bag away from the table and then walked out of frame.

Mr Hing told Stomp in a phone interview that the bag belonged to his stall assistant. It contained personal items such as a wallet, an Identification Card (IC) and house keys.

He said: "We bought the table ourselves so that we had somewhere to place our belongings.

"It was peak period and everyone was busy at the stall when the incident happened, so we did not notice until later."

A police report was made.

In response to media queries by Stomp, the police said they were alerted to a case of dishonest misappropriation of property at 271 Onan Road at 7.34pm.

Police investigations are ongoing.
