Man broke into Geylang unit, stole 5 rolls of copper cables and 2 watches worth $328

A 39-year-old man will be charged in court on Wednesday (Aug 24) for his suspected involvement in a series of housebreaking cases.

The police said they were alerted to a case of housebreaking at a unit located along Lorong 4 Geylang on August 17, at around 10.50pm.

A total of five rolls of copper cables and two watches valued at $328 were purportedly stolen from two rooms.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of CCTV, officers from Bedok Police Division established the man's identity and arrested him on August 22.

Cash of about $1,040 was recovered from the man. He is believed to be involved in other similar cases.

The man will be charged in court on Wednesday with housebreaking, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The police advised all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close shackle padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuable in any premises; and

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
