Man arrested for snatching handphone from elderly man at Tampines

An 18-year-old man has been arrested for snatching a handphone from an elderly man in Tampines.

The police said in a statement that they received a report from the elderly male victim on Monday (Jan 27) at about 9pm that his handphone had been snatched by an unknown man while he was seated at the void deck of a block along Tampines Street 82.

The man then fled on foot.

Officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him three days later on Thursday (Jan 30).

Police investigations are ongoing.

The offence of snatch theft carries a jail sentence of between one and seven years and caning.
