Man arrested for breaking into shop at Jalan Kuras and stealing $5,000 and 100 packets of cigarettes

A 51-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft at Jalan Kuras in Ang Mo Kio.

The police said in a statement that they were alerted to a case of housebreaking at a shop along Jalan Kuras on Feb 22.

About $5,000 in cash and 100 packets of cigarettes were discovered to be stolen.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on Thursday (Feb 27).

About $1,500 in cash and eight packets of cigarettes were seized.

The man will be charged in court on Feb 28 with housebreaking and theft.

If convicted, he faces up to 10 years' jail and a fine.
 
The police advise property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in your premises; and

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
