Man arrested for allegedly robbing woman of $2,000 while armed with knife

A 43-year-old man who allegedly robbed a woman of $2,000 while armed with a knife along Newton Road has been arrested.

In a statement, the police said they had received a report at around 1.10am on Tuesday (July 16) from the victim about how the cash was taken from her.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the suspect's identity.

He was arrested along North Bridge Road on the same day the report was made.

The man will be charged in court on Thursday (July 18) with armed robbery with hurt.

If convicted, the man is liable to a jail term of five to 20 years, and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
