Man arrested for allegedly breaking into AMK mosque and prying open donation box

A 26-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking at a mosque along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6.

The police said in a statement they received a report on Feb 5 that Al-Muttaqin Mosque had been broken into and a donation box was found to have been pried open.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on Feb 7.

Further investigations revealed the man is believed to be involved in a separate case of theft in dwelling and another case of mischief.

If convicted of housebreaking, the man faces up to 3 years' jail and a fine.

The police advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in any premises; and

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
