A 35-year-old man was apprehended after he was seen standing on a ledge between the 9th and 10th storey of Block 356 Yishun Ring Road on Monday afternoon (May 24).

Several Stompers alerted Stomp to videos and photos circulating on WhatsApp of the incident.

Several passers-by had gathered in the area to watch.

In response to a Stomp query, the police said they received a call for assistance at 4.59pm.

"When officers arrived, a 35-year-old man was seen standing on a ledge between the 9th and 10th storey at the said location," said a police spokesman.

"Officers from the police's Crisis Negotiation Unit (CNU) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were also activated.

"CNU officers eventually convinced the man to get back inside the building with the help of police officers at about 6.20pm."

The SCDF told Stomp they deployed a safety life air pack and rescuers from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team were on standby as a precautionary measure.

The man was subsequently apprehended under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act.

No injuries were reported.
