Man allegedly slaps 13-year-old boy's cheek and grabs his neck before robbing him of his phone

 A 46-year-old man was arrested on Oct 9 for allegedly assaulting and robbing a 13-year-old boy of his mobile phone along Buangkok Green.

With the help of police cameras and through follow-up investigations, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him within 12 hours along Buangkok Crescent on the same day of the report.

Stomp understands that the man had slapped the boy on his left cheek and had grabbed him by the neck.

The man will be charged in court today (Oct 12) for robbery with hurt under Section 394 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term not less than five years and not more than 20 years’ and shall also be punished with caning with not less than 12 strokes.

The police advise members of the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Always be alert and attentive to your surroundings. If you suspect that you are being followed, remain calm and proceed to a more crowded area or call the Police to seek help
  • Avoid wearing excessive jewellery or carrying large sums of cash
  • When on the streets, carry your handbag on the side that is away from moving traffic
  • When returning home alone or late at night, arrange for someone to escort you home
  • Carry a shrill alarm with you and use it to scare off the culprit or to attract the attention of other members of the public.
