Man allegedly punches, hurls vulgarities at nurses and security officers in hospital ward

A 43-year-old man allegedly punched and hurled vulgarities towards the nurses and security officers in a hospital on Friday (Sept 9), said police.

The police had received a call for assistance about a man who was behaving violently in a hospital ward at about 9.20pm.

The police would be charging him on Sept 10 for his suspected involvement in a case of public nuisance.

Anyone found guilty of the offence of public nuisance will be liable for an imprisonment term of up to three months, a fine of up to $2,000, or both.

The man is also being investigated for voluntarily causing hurt, voluntarily causing hurt to a security officer and intentionally causing harassment towards a public service worker.

The offence of voluntarily causing hurt carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine of up to $5,000, or both.

The offence of voluntarily causing hurt to a security officer carries an imprisonment term of up to five years, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.

The offence of intentionally causing harassment towards a public service worker carries an imprisonment term of up to 12 months, a fine of up to $5,000, or both.

Police said they have zero tolerance towards such acts of violence against public servants who are carrying out their duties and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
