Man allegedly broke into Kovan Road unit and stole over $83k worth of jewellery

A 38-year-old man will be charged in court on Wednesday (May 25) for allegedly breaking into a unit along Kovan Road and stealing more than $83,000 worth of jewellery and accessories.

The police received a report about the incident on May 20, at around 9pm.

Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the man's identity and arrested him on May 23.

All of the stolen items were recovered.

The man will be charged in court on Wednesday with housebreaking and theft, which carries up to ten years in jail and a fine.

All property owners are advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks when leaving your premises unattended;

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition; and

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in your premises.
