Man, 38, arrested for molesting woman inside lift at Serangoon

A 38-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a woman in Serangoon.

The police said in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 24) that they were alerted to the case on Tuesday (Aug 23) at about 5.30pm.

The woman was purportedly molested by an unknown man inside a lift along Serangoon North Avenue 1.

Through follow up investigations, officers established the identity of the man and arrested him within two hours of the report being made.

He will be charged in court on Thursday (Aug 25).

The offence of outrage of modesty carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments.

Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Zed Teo commended his officers for their swift action in responding to, identifying, and arresting the man: "The police have zero tolerance towards sexual offenders who threaten the safety of the community and will spare no effort in ensuring that offenders are swiftly apprehended and dealt with in accordance with the law."
