Lorry driver arrested after road rage dispute at Jalan Eunos, cyclist assisting with police investigations

A 32-year-old lorry driver has been arrested for rash act after he was caught on video in a road rage dispute with a cyclist along Jalan Eunos on Feb 24.

The 55-year-old cyclist, who punched the lorry driver in the face, is assisting with police investigations for voluntarily causing hurt.

Several Stompers alerted Stomp to the video of the dispute that has been circulating online.

In the video, the cyclist is seen carrying his bike as he walks along the side of the road.

He knocks on the side of the lorry as the driver reverses.

The lorry driver then swerves his vehicle sharply to the left, forcing the cyclist to carry his bicycle off the road to avoid getting hit.

As the cyclist walks away, the lorry driver is seen exiting his vehicle and running after the cyclist with something in his hand.

He comes to a stop right in front of the cyclist who immediately punches the driver in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.

The police provided the following statement regarding the incident: "The police are investigating against two men for their suspected involvement in a case of road rage.

"On Feb 24 at about 10.30am, the police were alerted to a case of road rage involving a 55-year-old male cyclist and a 32-year-old male lorry driver along Jalan Eunos. 

"Preliminary investigations revealed that a dispute arose between both parties after the lorry driver overtook the cyclist on the road.

"Following an initial confrontation between them, the lorry driver is alleged to have followed behind the cyclist after he rode away, before subsequently veering into the cyclist’s lane and forcing him off the road.

"When the lorry driver alighted from his vehicle to confront the cyclist, the cyclist is alleged to have punched the driver on the face.

"The lorry driver was arrested on Feb 26 for rash act endangering the personal safety of others, while the cyclist is currently assisting with police investigation for voluntarily causing hurt.

"If convicted for rash act endangering the personal safety of others under Section 336(a) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, the lorry driver may be liable to imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to $2,500, or with both.

"If convicted for voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, the cyclist may be liable imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years, or with fine which may extend to $5,000, or with both.

"Rash driving or riding is dangerous and could result in serious or fatal traffic accidents. 

"All motorists are urged to drive safely and strictly abide to traffic rules and regulations.

"The police will not hesitate to take firm action against motorists who choose to endanger the safety of other road users."

Last year, another dispute involving a cyclist and a lorry driver went viral. The cyclist was caught on video knocking off the lorry's side mirror before the driver swerves to the left and knocks the cyclist onto a pavement.

They were both arrested following the incident.
