S'pore photographer's exhibition at Tampines will bring back all the memories

If you are looking for fun activities to do over the National Day weekend, be sure to include this meaningful exhibition at Tampines in your schedule.

Known as "I've Cot You (Sayang, Sarong Baby)", the heritage cum photo documentary project traces personal stories and memories revolving around the cloth cradle in Singapore.

The unique cradle was a practice commonly adopted by Singaporean families to coax their babies to sleep in the 80s and 90s, but has since become obsolete as lifestyle trends and consumption patterns evolve.

The interactive showcase will feature works from local artist and photographer Zinkie Aw, who embarked on the project in 2015.

Presented as a series of five pit-stops, the exhibition will feature:

  • An upsized cradle fabricated for adults;

  • A meditative 'pod' where visitors can ponder upon photographs and handwritten reflections of adults who grew up in a sarong cradle;

  • Walls of archival content, with old photographs and quotes, as well as ‘relics’ relating to this practice from the past;

  • An installation of an HDB flat with an actual child-sized cradle structure, designed to juxtapose against the Tampines HDB heartland environment

The "I've Cot You (Sayang, Sarong Baby)" exhibition will be held at the new Tampines Regional Library at Our Tampines Hub, and is open from 10.00am to 9.00pm daily from 05 Aug to 30 Sep 2017.
