After an SMRT bus broke down along Yishun Ring Road, near a bus stop at Block 227 Yishun Street 21 yesterday (Aug 6), members of the public stepped forward to help push the vehicle to the side of the road.

Stomper Selvarani, who was at a shop nearby at around 4.50pm, took a video of the heartwarming gesture.

In the video, a group of people, including some elderly, were seen pushing the bus from the back.

Others followed alongside the bus as it moved forward slowly, guiding it along.

According to Selvarani, the broken-down bus had blocked off the two lanes on the road and caused a traffic jam, which lasted for 20 minutes.

Motorists who were stuck quickly alighted their vehicles to help.

Some approached the bus captain to ask about the situation and tried to push the bus.

However, it did not move.

Later, more passers-by joined in and the new group managed to move the bus to the side of the road, easing the traffic congestion.
