Stomper Lau Lup was heartened to a tough-looking man shield an elderly woman from the rain today (July 14) at Toa Payoh.

Lau Lup said he was walking outside a church when he saw a "long-haired, Ah Beng-like tough guy with a compassionate heart" approaching an elderly Indian woman.

The man offered to shield her from the rain with his large umbrella, as the rain was heavy and her own umbrella was small.

He helped the woman head to the nearest shelter, the church.

Said the Stomper:

"He was able to look beyond ethnicity and cultural background to help someone in need.

"This is the spirit of being Singaporean.

"Not just blindly pursuing 5Cs (cash, car, condo, credit cards and country club membership).

"But displaying another version of 5Cs (compassion, creativity, common Singaporean values like equality and harmony, cost saving, comradeship)!"
