Inspiring Teachers Awards: Mr Hairol offered to confiscate my phone daily as I was addicted to it

Mr Hairol from Anderson Secondary School not only taught Elton various life skills, but also went the distance to help him curb his phone addiction.

Here is 14-year-old Elton's entry for the Samsung-Stomp Inspiring Teachers Awards:

"The teacher I would like to nominate is Mr Hairol. He is my form teacher and my Art teacher.

"As our form teacher, he taught us lots of life skills such as punctuality. By making sure we assemble early during morning assembly, we learnt how important punctuality is.

"Apart from that, I would consider myself sort of a phone addict.

"In order to help me, Mr Hairol actually offered to confiscate my phone every day and returned it to me after school.

"By doing this, he actually helped me to exercise control and had to sacrifice lots of time just to return the phone to me at the end of the day.

"I feel that he deserves the Inspiring Teachers Award as firstly, he inspired us all to come down in time and secondly, he sacrifices his time in order to help his students.

"Whenever I need help in project work, such as managing other members, he would also patiently advice me on what to do."

The contest is now closed and winners will be contacted shortly.
