Guy arrested for robbing 78-year-old man with penknife in Tampines

A 28-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday (May 29) for his suspected involvement in a case of attempted robbery at Block 266 Tampines Street 21.

The police said in a statement they received a report on May 19 at about 6.34am that an unknown man clad in a black hoodie had tried to rob a 78-year-old man with a penknife.

The suspect fled after the victim shouted for help and did not make away with anything.

The elderly man was not injured.

Through ground enquiries with the aid of footage from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him along Tampines Street 32 on Wednesday.

The black hoodie and a pair of shoes were seized by the police.

The man will be charged in court on Friday (May 31) with attempted armed robbery.

If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to seven years and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
