Fire involving contents of bin centre breaks out at Chinatown Complex Market

A fire that involved contents of a bin centre broke out at the basement of Chinatown Complex Market on Friday morning (Aug 7).

Stomper Serena, who alerted Stomp to the incident that occurred at 335 Smith Street, shared photos and videos of what happened.

In the video, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) can be spotted at the scene and smoke is seen surrounding the place.

In response to a Stomp query, a spokesman for SCDF said that they were alerted to the fire at about 8.45am.

"The fire, which involved contents of a bin centre, was extinguished by SCDF with a hose reel," said SCDF.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of fire is under investigation.
