A fire involving the contents of a two-storey shophouse broke out at 14 Dickson Road on Thursday afternoon (May 16).

Stompers Aaron, Henry, Jun Xian, Liangfa, and Cynthia alerted Stomp to the fire and shared photos and videos of smoke rising above Dickson Road.

In another video shared by Dinesh, firefighters can be seen standing on the roof of a shophouse to fight the fire.

At 3.07pm, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a statement on Facebook that they were alerted to the fire and were at the scene conducting firefighting operations.

In a final update at 5.27pm, the SCDF gave the following statement:

"At about 2.50pm today, SCDF responded to a fire at 14 Dickson Road.

"The fire involved the contents of a 2-storey shophouse.

"SCDF quickly deployed its resources to surround the fire.

"Protective water jets were also strategically deployed along the boundary between adjoining shophouses to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring units.

"Twelve emergency vehicles and about 40 firefighters were deployed to mitigate the fire.

"At the height of the operations, 6 handheld jets were used to bring the fire under control.

"The fire was extinguished at approximately 4.10pm.

"Damping down* operations are ongoing.

"There were no reported injuries."

*Damping down is a term used by SCDF to describe the application of water to wet burnt surfaces immediately after the fire is put out. This is to prevent any potential rekindle of fire from the hot burnt surfaces.
