Fire at The Arcade extinguished by sprinklers and member of public

A fire broke out at The Arcade at Collyer Quay on Wednesday morning (Jan 30).

Stomper Sadik, who works on the second floor, alerted Stomp to the fire and took photos from inside and outside the building.

"There was smoke everywhere," he said.

"It had even entered the air conditioning system.

"The whole building looked like it was filled with smoke.

He told Stomp he believes the fire originated from an eatery in the building.

In response to a Stomp media query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they responded to the fire at 11 Collyer Quay at about 8.35am.

"The fire was extinguished by the sprinkler system and a member of public using a fire extinguisher prior to SCDF arrival," a spokesman said.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
