Fire at Sing Avenue terrace house started from e-bike which was being charged

A fire which broke out at a terrace house in 82 Sing Avenue on Friday night (July 6) had originated from a Power Assisted Bicycle (PAB) that caught fire while it was being charged, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in a Facebook post.

In an earlier report, several Stompers had alerted Stomp to the fire, which happened at about 9pm.

A neighbour told reporters that he saw sparks like “fireworks” at the affected house.

The raging fire was brought under control by the SCDF at around 10pm. It was subsequently extinguished at 10.45pm.

The SCDF said that preliminary investigation findings indicated that the cause of the fire is of electrical origin and arose from the PAB which was being charged.

It also encouraged members of the public to observe fire safety tips on charging PABs and Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) in order to prevent these fires, adding:

“Let’s all play our part towards a fire safe environment.”
