E-scooter rider allegedly knocks down 3-year-old girl in Pasir Ris, police investigating

An e-scooter rider allegedly knocked into a three-year-old girl while travelling along a pavement at Pasir Ris Drive 3 on Aug 18 at about 9.45pm.

The father of the girl, Facebook user Esmond Lim, posted an account of what happened on his page.

According to his post, the man, who was riding with a small boy on his e-scooter, did not stop or apologise after hitting his daughter.

"He stopped only after I shouted for him to stop," wrote Esmond.

Esmond then confronted the rider and asked him why he did not stop after knocking into his daughter.

"He still dare to say it's our fault as we stop and block his way [sic]," he wrote.

Esmond then told the rider that he was going to fast so he told his daughter who was walking in front of him to stop and to stand to the side. Esmond believes that the rider's left thigh hit his daughter, causing her to lose her balance.

Esmond told Shin Min Daily News that he held onto his daughter in time, so she did not fall or hurt herself but was left in shock.

Esmond said that the rider continued to insist that he was not at fault so he told him that he would call the police.

"After seeing I called the police, he quickly ask[ed] his daughter to go and just [rode] off quickly as it's green light ahead in favour to them," he said.

He then told his wife to look after their kids while he pursued the rider to take a photo of him.

In his post, he stated that he was not "against" people riding e-scooters.

"You have kids of your own and I would have let it go if you would have just said sorry to my daughter for the rash act and accident," he wrote.

"However, you decided [to] show a bad example to your kids and mine by running away with it.

"As such, I will let the police deal with you on this."

In response to Stomp's queries, a police spokesman confirmed a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.
