Drugs found on man who was arrested trying to steal USB cables from Geylang phone shop

A man arrested for stealing USB cables from a shop on Saturday night (Sept 2), was found with drugs on him.

The incident happened at mobile phone shop along Lorong 16 Geylang, and the man allegedly took seven cables from the store, each worth $5, reports Lianhe Wanbao.

According to The Straits Times, the man placed the cables inside his pockets, but his actions were noticed by the shopkeeper who asked him for payment.

The man attempted to pay for the cables via Nets, but his card was declined. 

He and the shopkeeper became embroiled in a tussle, and the latter called the police.

The man attempted to flee, but the shopkeeper held onto him, causing him to fall and injure himself. 

In response to media queries, a Police spokesman said that the Police received a call for assistance at 340 Geylang Road at 7.35pm that night. 

A 45-year-old man was conveyed conscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and he was later arrested for theft in dwelling and drug- related offences.
