"Mini explosions" could be heard after a car caught fire at River Valley Close on Friday (Feb 17).

Stomper Kristie shared videos and photos of the vehicle engulfed in flames with thick black smoke rising out of the burning wreck. A nearby tree by the road next to the car also caught fire.

She said it happened around noon.

"The driver stopped the car and ran to The Avenir condominium construction site to get a fire extinguisher," recounted the Stomper.

"He tried to put out the smoke, but the car was on fire moments later. It looked like it came from inside the car cabin.

"The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived 15 minutes later to put out the fire. Mini explosions could be heard as the car continued to burn."

In response to a Stomp query, SCDF said it was alerted to a fire at 5 River Valley Close at about 12.05pm.

"SCDF extinguished the fire using a water jet. There were no reported injuries," said SCDF.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Other videos of the incident were also posted online.
