Driver arrested for drink driving after crashing into van on AYE

A 25-year-old driver was arrested for drink driving after crashing into a van on the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) on Mar 4.

The crash was captured on video by Facebook user Mustafa Danial, 24, who posted the video on Roads.sg.

Mustafa wrote that he had been travelling at 90km/h in the first lane when he saw the BMW in his rearview mirror.

Before he could change lanes to the second lane, the BMW had swerved to the third lane and back to the first.

The van driver who was overtaking a pickup truck in the first lane when the BMW smashed into the back of the vehicle where it "dragged for a good 30m".

Mustafa said he had parked his car and rushed over to help.

He saw that the airbags had been deployed.

A female passenger had slid into the space under the dashboard while the driver looked shocked.

There were no major injuries but when Mustafa opened the car door there was smoke coming out from the car.

When he asked the driver if he was okay, the driver swore at him: "F**k you."

The police told The Straits Times that a 25-year-old driver was arrested for drink driving and investigations are ongoing.
