About six people were evacuated after a fire broke out in a Hougang restaurant kitchen on Friday afternoon (Sept 9).

Sharing videos and photos of the incident, Stomper Roger said there were customers dining in the Indian eatery named Pasumpon Restaurant and Caterer when the fire happened.

He told Stomp: "Some passers-by assisted to put out the fire from the nearby hosereel but to no avail as there was no water supplied to it. It was faulty."

The Stomper said that fire engines arrived within 12 minutes.

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at Block 108 Hougang Avenue 1 at 1pm.

"The fire involved contents of a kitchen of a unit on the ground floor," said SCDF

"SCDF extinguished the fire using a hosereel. About six people self-evacuated prior to the arrival of SCDF."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
