'Decent-looking man' allegedly molested woman on bus by using pouch to hide his hand

Police are investigating an incident in which a woman was allegedly molested by a male commuter onboard a crowded bus on Saturday morning (Aug 25).

The incident occurred when bus service 130 was setting off from Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange at around 8am.

According to Lianhe Wanbao, the victim is 26-year-old Ms Su, who is from Malaysia. She has been working as a clerk at a car garage along Sin Ming Road for eight months.

She told reporters: "I wasn't even dressed sexily at that time. I was in a t-shirt and shorts, but was targeted by the decent-looking perpetrator."

According to Ms Su, the bus was exceptionally crowded even though it was a Saturday morning. She said it could be due to the fact that it was the 15th lunar day of the seventh lunar month.

The man had been in the standing area of the bus while carrying a backpack and a holding a waist pouch in his right hand. Ms Su was standing nearby with her back to him.

"I felt something touching my hips, but did not think much of it. I thought the bus moving had caused the man's pouch to accidentally touch me," added Ms Su.

She also said that this 'touching' occurred several times in the span of 10 minutes. The final time, she felt fingers on her hip area.

"I was both angry and scared, and immediately turned to glare at him. It turned out that he had hidden his left hand below his pouch to molest me."

Panicking, Ms Su took out her mobile phone to snap a photo of the man.

She said the man then used his hand to cover his face while apologising profusely, before hurriedly alighting from the bus after two stops.

"After reaching my office, my colleagues suggested that I go to the police station to lodge a report. The officer also took my shorts as evidence," recounted Ms Su.

In response to media queries, the police confirm that a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.
