A recycling bin caught fire in the early hours of Sunday (Jan 8).

Stomper Kohji shared photos and videos of the incident that occurred at Block 512A Yishun Street 51 at around 1am.

He said: "Fortunately, two cyclists passed by and helped to put out the fire before the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived."

Photos that Kohji sent show a man holding a hose reel and extinguishing the fire. Smoke can also be seen from the charred bin.

In response to a Stomp query, SCDF said it was alerted to a fire involving a recycling bin on the ground floor of the block at around 1.10am.

It added: "Members of the public extinguished the fire using a hose reel. There were no reported injuries."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
