Cleaner molested step-granddaughter again after release from jail, says wife couldn't satisfy him

A 55-year-old cleaner molested his step-granddaughter again, after being released from jail early last year for outraging her modesty in a previous incident.

He had molested his step-granddaughter in 2014 and was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail for molesting the girl.

He repeated the crime in his flat in Lengkok Bahru in Bukit Merah on Oct 27, 2017, at around 1pm.

According to The Straits Times, the 13-year-old girl had planned to stay at his flat for the weekend to be with her siblings.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Amanda Han said that the girl lived with her father, while her older brother and younger sister lived with the cleaner.

The DPP added that the teenager did not want to be alone at home while her father was working.

She slept on a mattress in the living room that night.

At around 3am, the cleaner went up to her and touched her inappropriately.

DPP Han told District Judge Kan Shuk Weng: "He did this for a while until he felt satisfied, then stopped and returned to his area to lie down."

The girl told her grandmother what had happened the next day in the afternoon.

Later, she and her father went to the police to make a report.

The man, who cannot be named due to a gag order to protect the girl's identity, was sentenced to two and a half years' jail on Nov 8 after pleading guilty to a molestation charge.

As he is above 50 years old, he cannot be caned and will spend another six weeks in jail in lieu of caning.

As he stood in the dock on Thursday (Nov 8), the cleaner, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency. He told Judge Kan that he committed the offence as his wife was unable to "satisfy" him.

For molesting the girl, he could have been jailed for up to five years and fined.
