Cabby in his 70s suffers chest pains after taxi catches fire in CTE tunnel

A red TransCab caught on fire along the Central Expressway (CTE) heading towards the direction of the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) at about 12.40pm on Tuesday (Jul 24).

In a video Stomper RudeChild shared, the taxi is seen surrounded by several Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel who were attempting to douse the flames.

In response to a Stomp query, the SCDF said that it was alerted to a vehicle fire at about 12.40pm.

"The fire, which involved the front engine compartment of the taxi, was extinguished by SCDF using two compressed air foam backpack and one water jet," said the spokesman.

"The taxi driver, a Chinese man in his 70s, was conveyed to Singapore General Hospital for chest pains.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation."
