A car driver was taken to hospital after his vehicle was hit by a bus that beat the red light in Ang Mo Kio on Thursday afternoon (Oct 20).

The bus captain has been suspended from driving duties, said Mrs Grace Wu, SBS Transit's vice president (special grade) of customer experience and communications.

Responding to a Stomp query, the police said they were alerted to the accident at the junction of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 and the slip road into Central Expressway (CTE) at 4.54pm.

A 22-year-old male car driver was conscious when taken to hospital.

Stomper Serene submitted photos of a damaged red car at the scene. Metal dislodged from the car can be seen on the road.

Serene also shared a video of the collision uploaded by Facebook page Beh Chia Lor, showing how the SBS Transit bus had beat the red light and crashed into the car.

The car then hit a traffic light post, which is seen broken and tilted in a picture taken by the Stomper.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Mrs Wu told Stomp in a statement: "We take this incident very seriously as road safety is of utmost importance in our operations.

"Our priority is on the well-being of the car driver and we are already in touch with him. He received outpatient treatment yesterday and we are rendering assistance as best we can.

"Neither the bus captain nor any passenger on board was hurt.

"Meanwhile, the bus captain has been suspended from driving duties pending investigations."
