'Blur' security guard on duty unaware robber fled with $14k in KL bank heist

A robber walked away with RM46,000 ($14k) in a heist at a bank in Malaysia --- while a guard on duty was oblivious to the brazen act.

The incident happened at a UOB bank in Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur on Monday (Sept 11) at around 12.15pm, reports The Star

The robber wore a mask to hide his features and was armed with a machete.

He entered the bank and approached a counter in the bank.

At that time of the robbery, only two workers were present in the bank while the rest were out for lunch.

After the robbery, he reportedly fled in the direction of Sungai Wang Plaza.

It is also reported that a security guard was on duty at the time of the incident, but did not even know that a robbery had taken place.

There were no injuries reported.

A UOB Malaysian spokesman said that the branch was immediately secured after the incident to ensure that all staff and customers were unharmed.

Said Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Sukri Kaman:

“Police are tracking down the suspect.”
