Bangladeshi zookeeper dragged off by white tiger cubs in fatal attack

A Bangladeshi zookeeper was mauled to death by two white tiger cubs -- just one week into his job.

The incident happened at the Bannerghatta Biological Park, where the 40-year-old victim, Anjaneya, worked as a caretaker.

Anjaneya had entered the enclosure around 5.30pm on Saturday (Oct 7) to clear the remains of the cubs’ dinner.

According to The Mirror, there was confusion over which gates had been closed and which were left open.

Anjaneya reportedly did not know which part of the enclosure the animals were in.

That was when tragedy struck.

A cub pounced on Anjaneya and bit his neck, before dragging him into the safari area.

Although forest staff who were nearby heard his screams and rushed to render assistance, it was too late.

Anjaneya died on the spot.

Both cubs involved in the attack are one-and-a-half-years old.

Anjaneya is survived by a wife and two children.

In the meanwhile, the park will be carrying out an investigation to determine if there had been negligence on anyone’s behalf which led to the incident.
