Arrested: Man couldn't pay taxi fare and allegedly asked cabby for money while armed with knife

A 37-year-old man was arrested after allegedly trying to rob a taxi driver in Geylang on Tuesday (Nov 13).

Responding to queries by Stomp, the police said that they were alerted to a case of armed robbery at 810 Geylang Road at 6.19pm and arrested the man in relation to the case.

A photo posted by SG Road Vigilante's Facebook page shows a police alert that was sent out to taxi drivers regarding the incident.

The message said to keep a lookout for a man who was wearing a red shirt, carrying a hover bag and armed with a knife.

Stomp understands that the man boarded a cab in Geylang and asked to be dropped off at City Plaza. However, he could not pay the fare.

He had also allegedly asked the taxi driver for money at some point during the journey.

No money was given and there were no injuries.

Police investigations are ongoing.
