Armed robber in Geylang had also robbed another cabby at Marine Terrace on same day

A 37-year-old man who was arrested for armed robbery of a cabby in Geylang on Tuesday (Nov 13) had also robbed another taxi driver at Marine Terrace on the same day.

At about 5.52pm that day, a 35-year-old taxi-driver reported that an unknown man had robbed him at knife point at Block 7 Marine Terrace.

Through ground enquiries, officers from Bedok Police Division and Clementi Police Division established the suspect's identity and arrested him along Lorong 24 Geylang at 8.10pm.

Preliminary investigations also revealed that he is involved in two other similar cases reported on the same day, said the police in a statement on Wednesday (Nov 14).

Stomp understands that he is the same man who was involved in a case of armed robbery at 810 Geylang Road at 6.19pm on Tuesday.

In that incident, the man had boarded a cab in Geylang and asked to be dropped off at City Plaza, but could not pay the fare.

He had also allegedly asked the taxi driver for money at some point during the journey while armed with a knife.

The man will be charged in court on Thursday (Nov 15) with armed robbery.

If convicted, he will be punished with a jail term of two to ten years, and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
