A 61-year-old man with a knife who charged at police officers was Tasered to disarm him, said police.

He charged on Saturday (March 25) for his suspected involvement in a case of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

The police said that on Friday at about 8pm, they received a call for assistance regarding a man setting fire to a housing unit at Lorong 1 Toa Payoh. He was also allegedly seen armed with a knife.

Upon seeing the responding officers, the man purportedly brandished the knife and charged towards the officers.

The man refused to comply with the officers’ instructions to stop his aggressive conduct, and they had to use a Taser on the man to disarm him.

Necessary force was used to subdue the man.

A knife, a Swiss Army knife and a hammer were seized from the man’s possession.
