99-year-old Dutch woman achieves bucket list dream of being arrested and jailed

A 99-year-old woman was placed in jail last Thursday (Feb 23) in order to realise her bucket list goal of being arrested and put in a jail cell.

The Dutch woman, identified by police by her first name Annie, was brought to a police station in the town of Nijmegen-Zuid, about 120km south-east of Amsterdam, where she was handcuffed.

In a post on the Nijmegen-Zuid Facebook page, Annie is pictured beaming and laughing as she shows off her cuffed wrists and sits in a cell.

A lieutenant from the station told The Independent via The Straits Times:

"In her life she never committed any crime, and thought it would be exciting to experience. As you can see in the picture from our post, she found it hilarious to be in the inside with the handcuffs."

Annie’s niece was the one who reportedly thought up the idea of getting jail time. She visited the station to “report” that Annie had committed a crime, but it is unclear what the reported crime was.

A police spokesman said:

“We don’t usually do this, but we made an exception.

“It was just a couple of minutes in the cell. It was all about the experience. We don’t know why it was on her bucket list.”
