9 students in Malaysia arrested after video of boy beaten with broom

Nine secondary school students in Malaysia have been arrested after a video of a boy being beaten by his classmates with a broom went viral.

In the video, eight students, including wearing a prefect's uniform, sang 'Happy Birthday' to the victim before assaulting him with a broom, kicks and punches.

It was earlier reported that the assault was part of a 'birthday celebration' for the victim.

According to The Star, the nine 17-year-old boys all attended Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bukit Jelutong, said Selangor CID chief senior assistant commissioner Fadzil Ahmat.

They have been released on bail and police are investigating the case that allegedly occurred on Feb 8.
