8 people self-evacuate after fire breaks out at Sembawang block

A fire broke out at Block 413 Sembawang Drive at about 6.30pm on Aug 20.

Stomper Haron, who resides in Sembawang, was on his way home when he saw the fire.

He said: "I saw a lot of black smoke coming out from a couple of windows, I don't know if they are from the same unit.

"Even after the fire was extinguished, the smell still lingered after about three hours."

Another Stomper was also passing by when he witnessed the incident and shared a video of it with Stomp.

He said: "The fire was on the 11th floor."

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that they responded to a fire incident at the 11th-floor unit at about 6.30pm. 

The fire, which involved contents of a bedroom, was extinguished by the SCDF using a compressed air foam backpack and a water jet.

Eight people had self-evacuated and there were no reported injuries. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
