7 men arrested for rioting after fight at Esplanade Drive, 2 others taken to hospital

Seven men, aged between 24 and 37, have been arrested for their suspected involvement in a case of rioting.

The police said they were alerted to a fight at Esplanade Drive on Sunday (May 22), at about 10.45pm.

When police arrived, the seven men had fled from the scene. Two other men, aged 25 and 33, had minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Through investigations and with the aid of images from CCTV cameras, officers from Central Police Division established the identities of the seven men and arrested them on Tuesday (May 24).

Police investigations are ongoing.

If convicted, the offence of rioting carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and caning.

The police also said they will not tolerate such brazen acts of violence and blatant disregard of the law, adding: "We will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law."
