60 evacuated after flames consume unit at Blk 704 West Coast Rd

Sixty residents were evacuated after fire broke out at a unit at Block 704 West Coast Road last night (Jun 30).

Stompers shared with Stomp videos of the raging fire where the flames could be seen from a window of the unit.

In reponse to Stomp media queries, a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) spokesman said:

"SCDF was alerted at around 10.05pm to a fire at Block 704 West Coast Road.

"SCDF immediately dispatched one fire engine, two red rhinos, two fire bikes, one ambulance and two support vehicles to the location.

"Donning breathing apparatus sets, SCDF firefighters vetted poor visibility to penetrate the fire within the unit.

"The fire was extinguished by SCDF using one water jet.

"Around 60 persons were evacuated by Singapore Police Force (SPF) and SCDF officers as a precautionary measure.

"There were no injuries reported.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation."
