6 arrested and $102,000 worth of heroin seized in CNB raid

Nearly 1.5kg of heroin worth about $102,000 was seized in an operation by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB).

Five men and one woman, aged between 20 and 48, were arrested following the raid on Tuesday (Sep 4).

In a statement on their website, the CNB said that 1.45kg of heroin seized "is enough to feed the addiction of more than 690 abusers for a week".

CNB officers were deployed in the vicinity of Tuas South Avenue 1 on Tuesday to conduct observation on a group of suspected drug traffickers.

At about 5.45pm that day, two cars -- a black Toyota and a blue Nissan -- in which the drug traffickers were in, were spotted.

A Malaysia-registered motorcycle was sighted soon after.

The rider of the motorcycle, a 24-year-old Malaysian male, met up with the driver of the blue Nissan. The two then returned to their respective vehicles and departed.

Shortly after that, teams of CNB officers, including officers from CNB's Special Task Force (STF), moved to arrest the suspects.

A plastic bag containing about 477g of heroin was recovered from the front passenger seat floorboard of the blue Nissan.

A 48-year-old Singaporean male passenger was also found with about 38g of heroin and a small amount of 'Ice', a street name for methamphetamine, in the pocket of his pants.

Cash amounting to more than $1,451 was also seized from him.

Both the passenger and the driver of the Nissan were arrested.

The 24-year-old motorcyclist and his 20-year-old pillion rider were also arrested. About 936g of heroin was recovered from the basket on the motorcycle. The motorcyclist also had cash amounting to $7,402 on him. The men are both Malaysian.

From the black Toyota, which was driven by a 40-year-old Singaporean male, a pouch containing about 29g of ‘Ice’, 3g of Ketamine, 5g of cannabis, 22 ‘Ecstasy’ pills and 86 Erimin-5 tablets were recovered. The driver was later arrested.

CNB officers subsequently raided the hideouts and residential units of the drivers of both cars.

A small packet of 'Ice' and some drug-smoking utensils were recovered at the hideout of the Nissan driver, located around Town Hall Link. A 31-year-old Singaporean woman, who is a suspected drug abuser, was also arrested within.

At the Boon Lay Avenue residential unit of the Toyota driver, 9g of 'Ice', 4g of ketamine, 7g of cannabis and three Ecstasy pills were recovered.

Investigations into the drug activities of all the suspects are ongoing.
