5 unlicensed massage establishments uncovered at Upper Serangoon Road

Five massage establishments were found to be operating without a valid license during an enforcement operation conducted by the police along Upper Serangoon Road on Wednesday (Dec 16).

Police investigations are ongoing.

Under the Massage Establishment Act 2017, operators of unlicensed massage establishments are liable for enhanced penalties.

The offence of carrying on a business of providing massage services in an establishment for massage without a valid license carries a fine not exceeding $10,000 and/or up to two years in jail.

For repeat offenders, the offence carries a fine not exceeding $20,000 and/or up to five years in jail.

In a statement on Friday (Dec 18), the police said they will also take action against landlords who knowingly lease their premises to unlicensed operators.

"Actions will be taken against the operators for flouting the rules and regulations under the Massage Establishment Act 2017," they added.

"The police will continue to take tough enforcement action against those found breaking the law."
